The Visual Politics of Wars

This MA offers an alternative, critical and global perspective to war studies. With the victory of Octavian at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, Rome changed from being a Republic to an autocracy. The thirty years leading up to what constituted a fundamental transformation of the Roman political system are the focus of this course. The topics you study are closely connected to the political changes being felt around the world today.

We make use of York’s rich heritage by interacting with local experts including Yorkshire Air Museum, Yorkshire Film Archive and war veterans living in the local area.
